I don't get the reference to Pacific islanders. Hawaii is a state. Our local tech gods all have houses in Hawaii - various islands, as well as our local political gurus - including the Pelosi family. Time shares in HA are the most prized. Vacations in HA are planned well in advance. Pearl Harbor is a National military and park site.

The Matson Ship line is keeping the Coscos and Safeways well stocked on the islands. The entertainers are well loved and travel with their music and shows - well attended by people getting their HA fixes.

CBS makes sure that Friday night is HA night - Hawaii 50 now finished and Magnum PI. Hawaii 50 is now appearing on ION TV - channel 16 which will have continuous shows 9AM to 3AM. These show always have a historical side topic explaining the culture.

Football in HA is big time with big players who get scholarships and go on to the professional teams.

A columnist for the SFC recently panned Tiki Bars in SF -trying to stir up trouble. I suspect that this is more of the same. People who come from the east coast probably do not understand the Pacific Coast.
