Evan Wiederhold tripled in the tying run and Michael Oh singled in the go-ahead, lifting Gunn to a 9-7 victory over host Fremont on Thursday in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division baseball game in Sunnyvale.

Weiderhold, who also doubled, drove in three runs on the day as the Titans (8-6, 8-1) maintained their hold of first place in the league. Eric Epstein added three hits and winning pitcher Nathan Nakamitsu, Ryan So and Aidan Everett each collected a pair as Gunn won for the sixth time in seven games.

The Titans are a game ahead of Santa Clara, which beat Milpitas 2-0 on Thursday. Monta Vista is in third place, 3 1/2 games back.

Gunn has a nonleague game Saturday at 4 p.m. against Aragon in Palo Alto.

The Titans scored four runs in the top of the first, all with two outs. So doubled and scored on Cole Mantovani’s single. Mantovani advanced to third on an error and scored when Epstein singled. Everett followed with a single and both scored on Wiederhold’s double.

Fremont took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the third but Nakamistu regained mastery of the Firebirds’ lineup, retiring the next 14 batters he faced and allowing Gunn to regroup and mount another rally.

Michael Panitchtipak and Nakamitsu each drove in runs in the seventh for Gunn.

In the PAL Ocean Division, Menlo-Atherton dropped a 4-2 decision at San Mateo. Anthony Waller drove in a run for the Bears (6-9, 4-3), who travel to plays Mills at 2 p.m. Saturday in Millbrae.
