Finally some good news ... it was devastating when La Comida wasn't allowed to continue as before (in a city-owned building, no less) once those renovations are completed.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this possible and I hope it will continue.

>> "Obviously we primarily serve meals, but we think that's almost kind of secondary to the social interaction that goes on. It's just heartwarming to see so many people coming together, enjoying themselves and obviously interacting. And there's also a lot of camaraderie among the volunteers."
No offense, but, speaking as a "senior" myself, I can't imagine the "hot lunch" being more nutritious than what I prepare for myself. IOW-- I find it curious that the subterfuge of "primarily serve meals" is still necessary to justify and draw people into the real purpose, which is social interaction. The Great Depression began ~90 years ago now. Most of us don't lack calories. Let's be honest and say that what we do lack is healthy social interaction.

Fighting loneliness and isolation is a important part of La Comida's purpose but as folks get older many people have a hard time shopping and cooking nutritious meals for themselves. This is good news for the seniors of Palo Alto.
