A man who allegedly grabbed a Stanford University employee’s buttocks on Wednesday evening was let go by campus police after the victim declined to press charges, according to the school’s Department of Public Safety.

Deputies went to investigate a reported sexual battery on the second floor of the Mitchell Earth Sciences building near Panama and Lomita malls just before 5:30 p.m., public safety officials said.

They spoke with a female staff member who told them a man grabbed her buttocks while she was at a water fountain, according to the department.

The deputies tracked down the suspect based on a description of his clothing, a red Stanford sweatshirt and black jeans. The 24-year-old man had no association with the university and the female employee declined to file charges against him, public safety officials said.

The alleged groper, who was escorted off campus by deputies, isn’t believed to be a suspect in the two other sexual batteries that happened within 30 minutes of each other along Escondido Road on April 7.

  1. Did the victim decline to press charges because the police encouraged her not to? Letting the perp get away with the crime just encourages him to attack more women. Hard to believe this is the only time he has or will do it.

  2. I think for this kind of situation, verified of course, quick justice would
be the best, smartest, cheapest and most rememberable for the perp.
The cop holds him still and she gets to take her best shot – in public.
Save everyone the grief, unclog the courts. 😉
