The story I heard from some of the tenants of the Glass Slipper was that some young women were smoking in one of the rooms when it caught on fire. Sadly the people most affected were the families living at the Glass Slipper. The family living next door was a single mom and her daughter. This poor woman was having a panic attack, she spoke no English, her husband had died 3 months earlier and she was on her own in the US. Another family further away from the fire said they heard no alarms go off and there were no sprinklers. The Red Cross came by to help out the tenants of the Glass Slipper, some who had been residents for 4 years.
Kudos the fire fighters from Mountain View and Palo Alto. Just watching them handle the entire situation from putting out the fire to interacting with the tenants of the Glass Slipper was just amazing. Seeing them in action just provides even more appreciation for what they do.

I must add the article states that only one room damaged. Not the case. To be exact only one room caught alight but there is considerable damaged to the hotel. The firefighters put out the flames and then the fire started again. Several rooms were damaged from the water and structural damage from the fire.

There is a police car sitting there on patrol right now, and the area is blocked off by traffic cones. It is completely shut down so there must have been considerable damage, and it must be considered a crime scene.

Is the Glass Slipper Inn serving as a de facto homeless shelter? If so, I can imagine that the owners would prefer to redevelop it and would benefit significantly from an "accidental" fire.
