The Championships at Wimbledon are getting ready to close out the first week of competition and seven Bank of the West Classic entries have already advanced to the third round including Agnieszka Radwanska, Venus Williams, Dominika Cibulkova, Daria Kasatkina, Coco Vandeweghe, Alize Cornet and Misaki Doi.

Stanford product Nicole Gibbs, though, did not make it out of the first round in either singles or doubles.

Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens knocked off Gibbs, 6-3, 6-1, in singles, while the Belgium duo of Elise Mertens and An-Sophie Mastach downed Gibbs and fellow American Irina Falconi, 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Dmitry Tursunov, who won a CCS tennis title in his one year at Menlo School, dropped a five-setter to Portugal’s Joao Sousa, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the first round.

The Bank of the West Classic will held beginning July 18 at the Taube Family Tennis Center on the Stanford campus.

The Bank of the West Classic Family Tennis Festival will be held there on Saturday, July 9 between 10 a.m. and noon. Learn to play tennis and enjoy tennis activities for the entire family.

All participants will receive a prize and enjoy snacks at the end of the event. Loaner equipment will be available for use and prizes will be raffled including tickets to the 2016 Bank of the West Classic.
