Comments by Cupertino's Mayor

Original post made by Plane Speaker, Crescent Park, on May 5, 2016

An article at TheVerge.Com posted today May 5th, 2016 reported
that Cupertino's Mayor, Barry Chang, stated that "Apple is not willing
to pay a dime in taxes".

A bit of an exaggeration. TheVerge.Com reports that Apple does pay
a rate of about 2.3% totalling $9.2 million between 2012 - 2013, despite
holding close to $200 billion overseas.

Mayor Chang says he is going to fight to force Apple to pay taxes and will
not back down. Chang is reported to have tried to force Apple to gift the
City $100 million for improvements through the Cupertino City Council, but
it was struck down.

The article points to another article/posting by the Guardian.Com saying
that American corporations have $1.4 trillion hidden in tax havens around
the world.

I wonder with all the raises in fees, plots to hold down salaries, lowering
in the qualities of services, lack of city services how Palo Alto compares
with Cupertino?

Why all of this money and power being hidden and held out of reach by
US corporations? Is this American, is this patriotic, is this capitalism?
