There will be more than farm-fresh produce at the Downtown Palo Alto Farmers Market on Saturday, June 6.

Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian will be holding “office hours” there to meet with the public from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Simitian, a former Palo Alto mayor, has recently been involved in an effort to preserve Buena Vista Mobile Home Park, the low-income El Camino Real neighborhood where about 400 individuals live. On May 26, the City Council OK’d the property owner’s application to close the city’s sole remaining mobile-home park. Now the only hope for preventing the residents’ eviction lies in an initiative spearheaded by Simitian and aided by the nonprofit Caritas Corporation to buy the park and preserve the housing. City and county funds have been pledged to help with the purchase.

Simitian has also taken steps to aid youth in crisis and has asked county staff to analyze the feasibility of providing inpatient psychiatric beds for youth in the county. That request will be heard by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 9.

All questions are welcome during Simitian’s office hours, and no appointment is required, the announcement from his office stated.

The farmers market is located at Gilman Street and Hamilton Avenue.
