A man and a woman were seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident at Bayfront Expressway and Chrysler Drive at around 8:30 p.m. Friday. A 16-month-old child in their vehicle was treated and released from the hospital, Menlo Park police said.
The driver, a 26-year-old woman from Redwood City, was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, according to police.
The man and woman, who were trapped inside their vehicle, were removed by staff with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District and were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.
Police did not release names. Witnesses are asked to call Sgt. Ed Soares of the Menlo Park Police Department at 650-330-6360.
How many crashes (including fatalities) have there been on Bayshore in recent months? This is a short straight road. Why can’t it be made safer? Mile for mile, this has to be the single most dangerous road in the area.
Well, when you are drunk, there is no such thing as a safe road, and the only safe vehicle is the one that will not start.
The way I read the article, the driver of the car where two adults were seriously injured and one child had minor injuries was the one that was drunk; a 26-year-old woman. Are child endangerment charges in the making for DUI with a child in the car?
I had a boss once that expressed remorse over the fact that a perfectly good sport, driving while drunk, had been made illegal. I found it VERY difficult to sympathize with that sentiment, and I told him so. But apparently, some people still wish to participate in this “sport”.
At age 26 I might consider that she was young and had not learned enough of life’s lessons to know that drinking and driving is a bad idea. What kind of school or societal lessons might have guided her? Was she just barely over the limit and thought she was okay to drive or was she WAY over the limit and obviously unsafe?
My attitude for myself, learned a little later in life, is that if I think I even MIGHT be driving, I don’t drink, period. With the amount of driving I do, this means I typically take my wine late in the evening, just before bed. There is nothing that alcohol is going to do for me that is worth the risk of a DUI, or, worse, hurting someone through my own stupidity.
Age 26 is in NO WAY too young to not have “learned enough of life’s lessons”.
