This is interesting, because just tonight I was saying how I didn't like the taste of our tap water, and in past I haven't noticed anything. We all know we are supposed to have good water here Could this have to do with the fire near Hetch Hetchy reservoir?
I heard that they were shifting water from near hetch hetchy to reservoirs farther away from Yosemite. Perhaps this stirs up sediment or requires more ... and it is chloramine, not chlorine, that is in our water.
Chloramine is almost impossible to get out of water, unlike chlorine that will evaporate if you leave it standing.
Thanks for your posting. I've recently noticed a stronger chlorine odor in our water in Foster City and Googled to see if more chloramine is being used since the fire near Hetch Hetchy.
Have others noticed more valve failures since we switched to chloramine?
I can well imagine coincidence or inferior manufacture as an explanation, but I have seen a cluster of failures since this change and wonder if anyone can provide informed speculation on the possibility of this causal relationship.
