Police evacuated nearby residents and businesses after a pressure cooker was spotted in bushes outside a building at San Antonio Shopping Center Sunday evening, May 26. The evacuation was lifted at about 9 p.m.

At about 6:10 p.m., a resident from 545 San Antonio Road called police to report a pressure cooker in the bushes near the lobby doors, according to Mountain View police. “Upon arriving at the scene police used an infrared device and found the pressure cooker was radiating heat,” police reported via the department’s Facebook page.

Around 9 p.m., police reported “Everything checked out clear at San Antonio Shopping Center,” and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Mountain View police reported that the evacuations were a precautionary measure and had asked people to stay away from the area. The perimeter included the entire shopping center and surrounding streets, including Showers Drive between El Camino Real and California Street. El Camino Real remained open to traffic, police said.

  1. If this was just an innocent case of a local resident putting a hot pot outside to cool (something that is done in our home at busy holiday times) then why didn’t the owner explain just that at the time to the police?

Or was this a case of act first and ask questions later?

I think it is important to know exactly how the incident occurred because I can foresee lots of times when innocent people’s actions could be reported as suspicious and it escalating out of control very quickly.

  2. EXACTLY!! thats the kind of thing thats been happening post you know what. innocent people are being ARRESTED for false fears! someone calls you a name thinking youre muslim or something and you’re the one who gets arrested. this incident shows the real fears that can escalate social tensions. dangerous attitude, this over fearing reacting.

  3. Sillo and Resident, let us all know how you obtained the crystal ball which can see through, anticipate, and accurately predict the outcome of every suspicious situation and person.

  4. So why not let the pressure cooker cool of in the back yard or patio, as most people do? Or does she live on a condo with no yard? Leaving it in the bushes of a parking lot is just plain stupid!

  5. Exactly where did this happen? According to Google Maps, the address given in this article (545 San Antonio Road) is a full mile (many blocks) away from the shopping center.

  6. Will we ever know what was in that cooker? Why was it hot? Was it somebody’s burnt dinner or the work of some really brainless pranksters?

  7. Yeah, I’m less concerned as to where it was than what was inside of it and what the Police believe its projected purpose was.

  8. no one has a ”crystal ball”. do you need a crystal ball to get through life? if you do, you won’t make it. life happens ,apparently. cant escape .

  9. in the eastern world ,you have ”look into my crystal ball!” ,in ”the west”, you have presure cookers. so american ,the mundane versus the unknown ”mystical” represented by crystal ball. america has appliances, the natural man has a ”crystal ball”.perhaps it is time to move from appliances to the ”mystic crystal revelations”, of aquarius.

  10. this was someone with 2 much time on their hands gee how many people accidently leave their pressure cooker in the bushes in the on position.
obviously someone wanted to have a little fun at other peoples expense.
