Zero Dark Thirty

Original post made by Len, Old Palo Alto, on Mar 24, 2013

Just watched this movie on the cable channel (pay for view). Very impressive. Taught and challenging, great acting, with a very serious story line, based on reality. It explains how UBL was found out, and killed.

I recommend.

It was a really good flick. Those water-boarding scenes were kind of stomach turning though! Very intense, and kind of difficult to get out of my head! I found some comfort in reading this really interesting interview with the guy who played "Dan." He is an Australian actor named Jason Clarke. Apparently, he underwent a "simulated" waterboarding to prepare for the role. He also talked about working with the actor who played Ammar - who is a French actor named Reda Kateb. It was so interesting to read about how they approached their acting for those scenes, and really committing to the roles and and the intensity. Its so easy to take for granted the craft of acting!
Let me admit to something else. I'm a huge fan of HBO shows, and so I couldn't help but think of Tony Soprano when Gandolfini showed up as "CIA Director."
Even better was the role of "Oz "alumni Harold Perrineau. Every time he was on screen, I so desperately wanted him to say, "Prisoner number 96C283, Osama Bin Laden...convicted October 1st 02, terrorism in the first degree... sentence: life in prison. Up for parole in 3." (Oz fans will get that.)

Far out. Americans applauding the fictional depiction of Americans engaged in torture.

The same torture we have prosecuted war criminals for.

Disgusting. I can't believe our great country has come to this.

"You mean "taut" not "taught.""

Yes, thank you for the correction.

Excellent movie, engaging and enlightening. Strees techniques and torture (or somthing close to it, without pulling out fingernails and using live flames), was quite effective. UBL appears to have been killed because such techniques were used. The Leon Panetta figure in the movie was primarily concerned with the veracity of the data, not how it was obtained. Obama came off as a hypocrite, in the background effects, although he was not a primary player in the movie.

No matter one's political views, this movie is a must see.

Fantasy and fiction\ all rolled into a movie.

Obama promised to get bin Ladin, and did as promised; even when the GOP/McCain said he was wrong to claim he could go into other countries (Pakistan).

Compared to Bush who promised, then 6 months later said he didn't care (all he wanted was to invade Iraq.)

Those are facts (want links?) or do you just want to believe a Hollywood movie?

I think we know the answer to that.
