FYI-Mark your Calendar - May 23rd

Reportedly (PaloAlto Patch) POTUS (that's President of the United States) will be in Palo Alto - again - on May 23rd - 4:30 p.m. at the Garden Court Hotel downtown for some sort of event then off to a $35500 per person fund raiser in Atherton. This will no doubt cause a lockdown of downtown PA at the heart of the evening commute - ditto El Camino or wherever for hours before and after. We've been through this before. VP Biden recently dined at Zibibbo downtown, and adjacent streets were off limits. A Halloween dinner with Google VP etc. last fall on Melville brought the neighborhood and immediate area to a standstill. Does this cost Palo Alto PAPD overtime? If so - who pays for this? The Democratic National Committee, the US Treasury? Or? I think I know.

I don't have $35,500!! So, I guess I won't get to meet the Prez, but more importantly he won't get to meet me either - Oh well, his loss!!!

Yes, the Police Officers will have to dust off their old motorbikes and give him an escort. When Medgedev visited, some senior Officers who hadn't ridden their bikes in years, had to be rounded up to provide an escort!!

City Council, maybe this is a good reason to keep the Traffic Team. We need these Officers to provide an escort for all the visiting Heads of State!!! What will the City do if Putin or the Queen pay us a visit?

As for Zibibbo, isn't that a little plebeian for a V-P of the U.S!! Perhaps not - this was Joe "true blue" Biden!!

I don't understand why people complain about politicians or world leaders visiting our city. We are a VIP city and people should be proud of it! Move to rural North Dakota if you want peace and lack of traffic. You could have acres, a mansion, and then some after selling your Palo Alto house.

Thanks, Huh - you said it well. Whether you appreciate the candidate, traffic or the potential tax payer cost or not, the increase of VIPs on the mid-peninsula is a reflection of the areas increased wealth & prestige. Note that I'm typing this away from all of that in EPA, but if we know ahead of time the areas to avoid, that's useful.

Does anyone recall when Chelsea Clinton would go to Town & Country, ditto George Schultz? Royalty attending Menlo School prowling downtown Menlo & other local areas? We all pay a price for the success of Silicon Valley, in traffic & the headaches that go along w/VIPs visiting - & that's not even really factoring in all the bigwigs Stanford has attracted before Sili Valley existed.

Hmmm..another fund-raiser here? What a shock! The most of any recent POTUS Web Link

I used to not understand how the richest folks supported him in 2008 ( like Buffet and Google founders) and some still do, until I figured out that the richest either have never had contact with the reality of how to earn their riches ( like the Google founders who skyrocketed past the hard work and slow growth with taxes and regulation like most of us did) or have figured out how to make even more through getting in bed with the right politicians ( like Buffet making a cool Billion bucks off of TARP and now off of not allowing Keystone to proceed).

We really need to wake up. Some of "the rich" have figured out how to game the system at our expense, and gaming with Obama and the Democrats seems to be the way to more wealth. IE Crony "capitalism" at its finest.

Ugh's screed was predictable, veering off into ten directions (keystone, etc..)

Well, here ya go:

Guess what? The next President will do even more fundraisers than the last!

Shocked, I'm sure.

On the same page of your linked story is a link to another story: "25% of super PAC money coming from just 5 rich donors"

Funny that 'ugh' didn't notice the link!

"WASHINGTON – Five wealthy people, led by Dallas industrialist Harold Simmons and Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, have donated nearly $1 of every $4 flowing to the super PACs raising unlimited money in this year's presidential race, a USA TODAY analysis shows.

Those donations have helped new Republican-leaning outside groups swamp Democratic-friendly super PACs in fundraising — money that is used largely for attack ads."

Does 'ugh' expect a politician not to fight back?

One notes that 'ugh' doesn't seem too concerned with the Right swamping the Left in SuperPac money - mostly unregulated and rarely transparent in these post CU days. Where is Ugh's concern?

Solutions to make Ugh happy:

- repeal/revoke/overturn Citizen's United
- public financing of elections - better that the politician's owe the public than owe George Soros, the Google boys and Warren Buffett

Ugh: gonna do anything about it? Or just moan and groan about the idle rich, who Ugh claims don't deserve their money, taking over politics?

What about Romney doing 6 fundraisers in 2 days last week? "(Romney)has a major breakfast hosted by a group of bundlers who typically appear on his major event invitations on April 26, but he also has five other events in the tri-state area, all of them at private homes."

Bundlers, Ugh. You are correct. YOU need to wake up.

Here's the latest ad that is running in the swing states. Note that there is no 'spiking the football'... there's still too much work to be done recovering form the economic mess that was the Bush years.

Web Link

2008. An economic meltdown.

Newscaster VO: Worst financial collapse since the Great Depression.

4.4 million jobs lost.

Newscaster VO: American workers were laid off in numbers not seen in over three decades.

America’s economy, spiraling down.

Newscaster SYNC: The biggest point drop that there’s ever been seen in a day.

All before this President took the oath.

Some said our best days were behind us. But not him.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SYNC: Don’t bet against the American worker.

ANNCR: He believed in us. Fought for us.

And today our auto industry is back…firing on all cylinders.

Our greatest enemy brought to justice by our greatest heroes.

Our troops are home from Iraq.

Instead of losing jobs, we're creating them. Over 4.2 million so far.

We’re not there yet…it’s still too hard for too many.

But we’re coming back. Because America’s greatness comes from a strong middle class. Because you don’t quit.

And neither does he.

Disclaimer: I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Ugh: we all knew you'd love to hear see that ad. Let's see if Romney can run ads with facts, or will Romney just revert to his usual rhetoric before going negative with Adelson's Chinese casino money?

And now for the facts:

The highest percent of unemployed adults since 1981: 88 million adults not working who could be

Record food stamps

Record living under our poverty line

Record low housing market

Record unemployment over 8% ( but don't worry, if enough folks quit looking, we will get that to 0% by Nov 5)

But, don't worry, the Democrats say everything is getting better ( just in time for the election) and you should believe what they say, not what you know.

Back to the topic, enjoy Barack Hussein Obama's Palo Alto visit May 23rd catering to the 1%!
