A Palo Alto 11-year-old has been selected as a “whiz kid” from nearly 9,000 children across the country vying to compete in the popular TV quiz show “Jeopardy.”

Partha Purushotham is among 15 children who will participate in Jeopardy’s “Kids Week,” to be broadcast July 30 through Aug 3.

Kids Week is “a celebration of youth and academic excellence with 5 of the nation’s brightest 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds,” Sony Pictures said in a statement.

Partha will go to Sony studios in Culver City for taping Monday and Tuesday, March 5 and 6.

The winner of each game will be guaranteed $15,000, with second-place finishers earning $2,000 and third-place contestants $1,000, Sony Pictures said.

Partha graduated from Duveneck Elementary School and now attends middle school at the independent Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough.
