ATT DSL Service

Original post made by ATT DSL User, Downtown North, on Feb 20, 2012

We live near downtown and are having intremittent service--someitmes very slow and sometimes it disappears.

Is anyone else having this problem or know why it is happening?

I had AT&T DSL and wasn't really happy with it at all. Even though I paid for 6mbps, the best I got was below 3. The tech-dudes who came out were really nice, tried hard to fix it and one kicked it up to a higher level of support, so I do have good things to say about that.
You might try -they are based in Santa Rosa, and I think they just re-sell service on the AT&T lines, but I have had much better luck, and it costs a lot less.

You should call AT&T though - they are helpful. The technicians are pretty honest about what is and is not possible. If that doesn't work, try sonic. My speeds didn't improve because of where I'm located, but at least I'm not paying for something I'm not getting.

Yes … I'm just under a mile from downtown and had another round of unpleasantness on the phone the other night with AT&T support about their Internet service. I use the Internet a lot and so I find there are many times when the service is slow, or in the case of 2 nights ago gone for some period of time. By the time I get someone on the phone it is often back up, though the speed does vary quite a bit.

It always just irks me so much that this is the heart of Silicon Valley and we have Internet service like this year after year and nothing is done about it.

I have had the same experience here in midtown - slow and erratic.
