Neighborhoods roll out their agendas for 2012

Palo Alto's neighborhood leaders say they plan to address a variety of issues in 2012. But cars in neighborhoods, whether driven or parked or with people living inside of them, most commonly top their lists.

Can't believe that some NIMBYs are complaining about the noise from bicycles. I live on Bryant Street and there is absolutely no noise from the bicycle route through my neighborhood. I just wish the city would expand the bicycle route network to make other parts of the city (especially west of Alma) easy to reach by bicycle.

I can find no mention in this story of people complaining about "noise from bicycles" nor have I heard it raised at any of the meetings I have attended on bicycle issues.

If there is a real-world basis for your claim, it is not commonly known and should be included in your comment.

Does the Downtown Parking Community Group have a representative from the University South neighborhood (the neighborhood between University Avenue and Professorville)? If not, how do I volunteer?

I believe it would be MOST USEFUL to include equal representation from the Downtown North neighborhood when determining the parking situations.

We must think of it as a total solution. One that can be implemented at one time. And NOT tax the time, energy and efficiency of the residents as well as the council's during a time when the city has so many excellent issues and projects to address. To do anything other than a comprehensive approach would be foolish and expensive of resources.

Please add equal representation from the DT North. If the committee is 'getting too large', then we could reduce DT South's representation in terms of committee members, but make it equal to north.

The bike issue in Southgate isn't noise or numbers is the problem of extremely narrow streets. If there are cars parked on both sides of the street (which there frequently are as Paly students use it as their parking lot) the streets become one way....never mind when a truck or emergency vehicle needs to pass. Add a lot of bikes, poor visibility and the fact that few bikes stop for the stop signs and it is a prefect recipe for disaster.
