Anyone get a message from Utilities asking about gas?

Original post made by curious, Green Acres, on Aug 2, 2011

There's a message on my machine today from the City of Palo Alto Utilities asking if we get natural gas, and I'm wondering why they are asking since we have always received natural gas (gas furnace/dryer) and our entire neighborhood does (Green Acres). Besides they can see we use it on our monthly bill. It's an automated call and says they will call back (no number is left for a return call). Just wondering...

Yes,it is an automated call $$$ from PA Utilities. Thousands of people will be called. Some sort of survey. $$$$ (Are these people training to work in D.C.?) Do you know what natural gas smells like? Do you know what to do if you smell it? Do you know how to turn off gas? Do you know to go outside the house to make a phone call...and on and on and on. You WILL get called if you don't speak....and trust me, the phone WILL ring during dinner time.

Probably in reaction to what happened in Belmont ... it is smart thing to start to get people thinking about being aware of what is going on with gas. I think in Belmont they were getting calls of people reporting gas smells long before the explosion.
