To the Editor:

“Warning: Freeway Closed” (letter, July 12) put me in mind of the remark made to me years ago by a highway planner: “Widening your highway to solve a traffic-congestion problem is like lengthening your belt to solve an obesity problem.”

Once corridors are developed, the decision is whether it is better to move bodies or to move data. Look for data movement to be more and more electronic and for home or neighborhood work centers replace the trek to skyscrapers for all but a few.
