A mountain lion was spotted Tuesday morning (March 8) in the hills above Interstate Highway 280 in San Mateo County, emergency officials said.

The cat was seen at about 6:30 a.m. near the 200 block of Josselyn Lane in Woodside. Residents are advised not to approach mountain lions, and to avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk and night, when the animals are most active.

In the case of a mountain lion encounter, emergency officials advise residents to try to appear large and make noise. More information can be found at www.keepmewild.org.

  1. Please don’t overreact and gun this mountain lion down. Early dawn and dusk are when wild animals are out and about. Be watchful but let’s coexist.

  2. Please leave this poor mountain lion alone and let it do it’s thing. The mountain lion won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt it.

I think it’s great that we live in an area where such beautiful animals can roam free.
