This is one of the saddest stories I've read in months. Not only was Dittmer's a landmark butcher shop and market, but it put all others within miles to shame. Above that, the owner, Dittmer, his family, and his employees were the nicest people you could ever meet in a hundred lifetimes.

To Dittmer and his family and friends - we're with you, and our hearts are with you all. We hope you can get through this and continue the proud tradition you started.

Thank you.

Jim Hewitt

p.s. - to some this may sound gross (and I've never personally been a fan of liverwurst), but one taste of Dittmer's homemade and home-smoked liverwurst with pistachios will make you a convert for life. I'd go miles out of my way sometimes to pick up a slab of that stuff. You'd never buy it in a supermarket again...
