Police are searching for a man who attacked a Mountain View woman as she walked through a residential neighborhood Saturday night.

At about 10:40 p.m., police dispatch received a call from a 27-year-old woman who said she was walking on South Rengstorff Avenue near Stanford Avenue when a man with short black hair grabbed her and dragged her about 20 feet to an empty lot, police reported.

The man repeatedly punched the victim in the face while she screamed for help, police said.

The man eventually released her and was last seen running south on Rengstorff.

The victim suffered facial injuries and was taken to a hospital to be treated.

The assailant was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a husky build, between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a dark jacket.

Investigators said that no other similar attacks have occurred in Mountain View and asked the public to assist the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to call Mountain View police at (650) 903-6344.
