Cal Ave oaks have a new problem: gall wasps

Original post made on Dec 13, 2010

California Avenue's beleaguered street trees were the target of city concern late last week due to the appearance of hundreds of fuzzy tan growths on the underside of leaves of the young southern live oak trees. The growths house larvae of a harmless "gall wasp."

This street is cursed, I tell you - cursed! This is obviously the third in a series of doomsday events. Now we have the plague of insects. First it was the ritual sacrifice of the old soul trees. Then the new ones were tortured in a sadistic "harsh pruning". Now this visitation of the Devil's agents. Where will it all end?

This is the work of those nefarious Pagans in the Public Works Department. I note that their high priest has been excommunicated by the High Council and their chief inquisitor, but that has not been enough to stem the evil tide!

The evil spirits must be ripped from the fabric of the street! It's time for an exorcism! Burn the witches! Off with their heads! Put them to the water test at the sewage treatment plant. If they float we know they are possed of evil spirits, and if they drown we know they were innocent!

We must act before it is too late and the traffic lanes are magically transmuted from four to two - yet anther sign of the Devil's handiwork!

Rise up with me, fellow believers!
