Palo Alto police are investigating the cause of a rollover crash shortly about 5:20 p.m. Monday (Nov. 15) that left an older couple trapped inside the car.

The occupants were not injured, contrary to initial reports, Battalion Chief Niles Broussard of the Palo Alto Fire Department reported.

At about the same time, a separate rollover accident was reported on Alma Street, but there were no injuries and Fire Department responders were canceled en route, according to Roger Bloom, assistant fire chief for operations.

Broussard said it appears that the Russian-speaking couple lost control of their small Toyota Echo, which flipped on its side. They were still belted into their seats when firefighters arrived, he said.

They were uninjured and declined transport to Stanford Hospital, he said.

  1. One rollover crash happened when an elderly driver lost control of his car. How did the other rollover crash happen? A rollover is a pretty extreme kind of crash.

  2. Last comment doesn’t make much sense, since elderly foreign drivers are unlikely to be engaged in any of the above-mentioned activities. Underinflated tire or possible health problem are possible causes.

  3. The police report says the driver got confused at the intersection of University and Middlefield and turned into a tree instead of into the cross street.
