A man was on his cell phone in the 500 block of Forest Avenue at 12:08 a.m. Friday morning when two men jumped out of a car and robbed him of his wallet, Palo Alto police Lt. Sandra Brown said.

One of the men flashed a handgun, hit the victim in the head and “forcibly removed his wallet,” Brown said.

An East Palo Alto police officer spotted the suspects’ vehicle in the driveway of an East Palo Alto house shortly after the robbery. Palo Alto police — with help from the East Palo Alto and Menlo Park police departments — searched the house and found the victim’s wallet, as well as the handgun and clothing used in the robbery.

One of the suspects was detained and booked into Juvenile Hall in San Jose. The victim was not seriously injured.

  1. The article says 2 men committed the robbery, but the suspect was booked into Juvenile Hall. How old was he? Was anyone else arrested?

  2. Enough! This kind of criminal activity is becoming utterly commonplace – and that is inexcusable. DO SOMETHING! The police need to do more. The citizens need to do more. And there needs to be more social shame put on the perpetrators of crime. More rights for the victim – minimal rights for the criminals. Enough!

  3. The PAPD will not do anything– they fear being accused of racial profiling—- so they are impotent in preventing violent crime on the streets of Palo Alto.

  4. Is it just me or does crime seem to be on the rise in PA? I’ve lost track of the burglaries, home invasions, in Palo Alto. In the last month I’ve read about 5 people from Bryant/Addison to Lytton Plaza being robbed of their wallets, car, laptops, purses……?????? Makes me a little paranoid.

  5. THEY ALREADY DO PULL PEOPLE OVER THE COPS ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY ARE GENERATING SOOO MUCH MONEY FOR BOGUS STOPS…SO ITS ALREADY IN THE WORKS…PAPD NEED TO STOP WORING ABOUT MAKING REVENUE FOR TRAFFIC STOPS AND BEGIN INVESTIGATING THESE CRIMES!!

  6. East Palo Alto parents need to wake up and raise ethical, law abiding children. Look at the juvenile crime rate there. EPA needs to turn into one huge office park without crime-committing cockroaches.

  7. @Fairview – No, it’s not really due to the police that our crime rate is low. [If so, then a very small measure.] It’s primarily due to the citizens. Without taking a side, racial profile has been a recurring discussion between the PD and the community in recent years. You can bet that it is indeed on their mind.

  8. If Mehserle had shot and killed a white young man by accident, you can be sure that he would not be in jail now.

Of course, cops are now having to think twice when they are dealing with bad guys. If the bad guys are black and the cop isn’t, then the race card is always going to be called.

    Strange form of justice.

  9. I might have read the article wrong, but I’m pretty sure it says that someone was arrested for robbing somebody. I also believe it said something about a gun and a hit to the head. I’m sorry, but it seems to me that the Police are doing the right thing.

@goalie- It is a combination of efforts by the Police and the citizens to keep the crime rate down. The Police are few, and they depend on the community to help unveil problems and report crimes.

I know you can’t please everybody, but you would think that the squeaky wheel would open their eyes to reality. The Police are the good guys. If you get pulled over for anything, you are still technically breaking the law. Just because it isn’t a felony, it is still a crime. If you disagree with that, then you should write your Representative, that is what they are there for.
