I think it should be explained to this kid that he is really messing up things for other teenagers... The more things like this that happen, the more parents are likely to force restrictions on their children. Kids shouldn't be given responsibility until they've earned it. We don't know enough detail about this particular kid's story to know for sure. But it seems to me that his parents probably weren't watching him as well as they should have and if they are themselves responsible (or are interested in making up for some of their lack of responsibility) they should make it clear to their child how serious this was and that privileges will be taken away as a result.

While I agree with your sentiments, your comment is ironic. I heard that the truck was impounded by RWC PD a week earlier. The 14 year old was driving with his mom in the front seat. Her license was suspended.

Then maybe the Mom should be prosecuted? She is raising her child to be a lawbreaker.
