The oil spill is now the size of Puerto Rico and getting larger every day. BP appears to be making no progress in sealing the well and cleanup is kind of pointless while the oil is still gushing out. Why don't the Feds nationalize BP and then use Navy submarines to seal the oil well? I bet the Navy and CIA have all kinds of secret underwater robots that could help out.

Moldonado was the one Republican vote the Dems needed to get the 2010-11 State budget passed last year. The only way he would agree to vote in favor of the budget was if the temporary 10 percent gasoline tax was withdrawn from the State budget. No wonder he's in favor of off shore drilling.
Had that temporary 10% gasoline tax been part of last years budget the State would not be in the budget crisis it is today.
Anyway, Moldonado has got his reward, he is not Lieutenant Governor! He may even beat Gavin Newsom next November for another 4 year term.

Obama called for SWAT teams to inspect the rigs in the gulf. So my question is has sabotage been ruled out?

It is amazing that SWAT teams are now experienced engineers - wow the training impressive and they can shoot too.

Nothing is failsafe as this proves.. However, I thought the oil drilling is sufficiently offshore and well-known so that if WE don't drill (and try to take appropriate precautions for our environment), then others will LESS interest in the U.S. environment, like China, WILL drill and take the oil. Anyone know the specifics about this?

I guess British Petroleum doesn't have much interest in the US environment. If the Arizonans want to look for undesirable foreigners south of their border, they should start right there.
The Wall Street Journal said the drill manufacturer offered BP a safety system that would have prevented this problem, but BP declined because of the half million dollar cost. Now the cleanup is going to cost billions. BP has no insurance for this, so big business is going to get another government bailout to pay for the cleanup.

Duveneck Nony has it right. If we don't, somebody else will, and we will pay a premium for our unwillingness to risk using our own. The rest of the world will tax us for our unreal world view. The works of man make our existence possible - the "sustainable" way might allow 10% of the world's population to exist at sustainable level. Don't curse the hand that feeds you.

You people who say that if the US doesn't drill offshore, then some one else will take our oil have lost me.
I thought the US has a 200 mile exclusive economic zone. If the US doesn't lease these mineral rights, then no can drill there. What is this "premium" we will pay for our unwillingness to drill?

umm...folks....it will be 6 months of leaking at this rate before it reaches the amount of oil spilled in Valdez.
that said, it is still a tremendous risk to our southern shores environment, and going to put many, many fishermen and tourist spots out of work, so my question is
why isn't anyone yelling at this Admin for doing nothing for 9 ( yes..NINE) days? I guess BHO just don't care about the Southern shores of our nation...perhaps it is some kind of -ism.
just commentin'

Please understand that a city boy has more trouble understanding "My Pet Goat" than farm boy Bush.
The premium I refer to is the profits we have to pay Dubai oil
Sheiks and the diplomatic crabbing we have to engage in to protect foreign oil supplies instead of using domestic sources.
This foolish Fairness Doctrine that demands we allow everyone access to our country and our markets while every other nation is operated to the advantage of its own has to change.

Arnold, burned california down with the help of ruben grijalva, mismanaged the publics funding and put California in the poor house.
NOW he wants to cover it all up in spilt oil?

It's lack of -ism, as in social-ism and bailout-ism. Why do you prefer to privatize the gains and socialize the costs?
Everybody wants the government to do everything for them, except taxing them to pay for it.

At the price of oil today, I wonder if there would be money in skimming up and selling the spilled oil? And how about the inverted funnel over the leak? Perhaps a BP bounty on every bbl kept offshore? There is always time for blame, now we need a cure.

Oil companies without the skill and equipment to immediately clean up their messes should not be allowed to drill off the USA coastline.

"And how about the inverted funnel over the leak?"
Prescient. BP's building one and expect to have it in place in a week. They call it a dome.

Palin?? No way, but I'll hold your coat while you stop China, Russia, Venezuela, etc from drilling. Then we pay them for the risk we are skeered to take directly, while they drill to own a bit more of us.
As for Ahnold, the polite term is "whipped."

Michael Brown. Was he the guy who left all those buses to flood? Or the guy who left town for a hurricane party, or the gal who refused to call out the Guard, or the board that spent levee money on a casino harbor, or the people who opposed the surge gates because... just because they could? No, Brownie rallied his troops outside the danger zone so they would be ready to come in as soon as it was safe - so he was the only one fired. In Washington, if you want a friend, buy a dog. But even then....

No, he was the guy who kept his troops ready, outside the storm area so they could come in as soon as it was safe.
