Nearly 10 inches of rain are expected to fall throughout the Bay Area by the end of the week in a series of storms not normally seen in the region, a forecaster said today (Sunday).

A series of storms that began Saturday night and are anticipated to stretch into Friday will bring “moderate to heavy” rain and strong winds, National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin said.

“One will lead right into the other, and each individual storm will be accompanied by periods of heavy rain and higher winds,” he said.

“To have this progression, this number of systems, is not unheard of but it’s not usual. If it progresses as anticipated, at the end, we will probably have to go back 10 years or more to find a system of equal rainfall and intensity,” Benjamin said.

Residents should prepare for the rainfall and expect rivers and other bodies of water to rise, he said.

  1. It is amazing how inaccurate our weather forecast is. It says the rain is coming on Saturday, now Sunday afternoon, the sun is still shining… Let’s see how much rain we going to their at the end.

  2. The weather forecast is this article was for the “Bay Area”, not just Palo Alto. The north bay area got hit earlier and heavier than the south bay. Looking at the weather map, the central valley (Sacramento, Fresno, Bakersfield) are getting hit pretty hard this afternoon.

They are forecasting heavy rain in the south bay on Monday morning and again Tuesday morning. If you don’t trust them, leave your umbrella home and see what happens.

  3. I bet there will be no Spare the Air warnings this week. All you fire lovers, go ahead and light up. No one will bug you about your pollution.
