Wake Forest deflates Cardinal with late TD

The Stanford football team has seen these games get away before, and was insistent it would not happen again. The Cardinal needed to finish, and it didn't happen. Wake Forest scored a touchdown with two seconds remaining to stun visiting Stanford, 24-17, in a nonconference contest on Saturday.

The clipping call on the big Gerhart run was the killer.

In 40 years of watching football, I have NEVER seen that block called a clip before. Unless the rules have changed over the off-season, that was a clean block, and the Deacons sure got some home cooking there when they most needed it.

Very tough break. But Stanford had ample opportunities to put the game away and failed to do it.
