I love it when the PA City Council calls other's fiscal activities "dumb and irresponsible"--like the pot calling the kettle black.
Maybe Larry Klein should tell the governor he will hold his breath until the governor agrees not to take the money. I am sure that will help!!!

Yes, Marvin, this sooo reminds me of a city that takes money from Utility bills to pay for the structural deficit in its general fund.

In addressing the fiscal needs of the city particularly the building of a new police station and where the money is going to come from perhaps the council can discuss what the city is going to do with the current police building. Can the existing building or site be sold? Or are we going to back to the "utility well?"

Soooo, what interest rate is proposed? (My credit cards want 28% APR.) And who guarantees the payback?

So, how come the City thinks it is DUMB when the state takes money from the City, but the City thinks it is NOT DUMB when they take OUR money,
$10 to $20,000,000 million in unnecessary utility charges, extra slaes tax, extra property tax, extra supplemental property tax, income tax on business, high fines, high fees, licences, driving out businesses, professionals, retail, consultants, long time hoe owners, etc, etc.
My, my.
Isn't turning over more and more money to a higher ever bigger government what the City wants?

Too bad the state doesn’t own some utilities. Then Palo Alto could show the governor how to solve the deficit.

“The staff report said the state proposal would require Palo Alto to cut a variety of local programs and services, including the police School Resource Officer program, the police traffic team, the city's shuttle service and the Office of Emergency Services.”
The proposal does not REQUIRE Palo Alto to cut Emergency Services or any other specific service. The staff suggests cutting police and emergency services as a scare tactic.
It’s completely irresponsible to even consider putting emergency services on the chopping block. There are many other low priority items that should be cut first. Any rational person knows this.

What do you expect from an area controlled by Democrats? Tax and spend, tax and spend...

Give it up.
When will people stop with the (D) and (R) stuff. One planet one people?
There are way to many inept, out of control losers running this city and state, WEARING both (R) and (D) behind their names.
The corruption and waste in Palo Alto is both a (D) and (R) thing and I am sure a few green party members are STUFFING THEIR POCKETS with PUBLIC BUCKS>

Democrats tax and spend - same old myth.
75% of the national debt was created by three presidents - Reagan, Bush, and Bush. All Republican.
The Republican "No New Taxes" mantra is funded by extreme deficit spending. Sounds great to the voter, but dumps a double sized problem on your progeny.

It's easy to work the math to show that (R)'s created all the debt.
It's easy to work the math to show that (D)'s created all the debt.
The reality is the (D)'s and (R)'s work together to take your money and spend it on their own power grab. The (D)'s and (R)'s are just distracting us so we won't realize how ridiculous the size and reach of government has become.

Right now, you know who's fleecing the public? It's the public unions, including the teachers. While programs are being cut, they're still increasing in employment.
And they mostly contribute to (D).

Lets get rid of the UNIONS so we can all get back to minimum wage jobs with no benefits! Who needs health benefits when the federal government will take care of us. Who needs money when I can get food stamps for free! Who needs a job when every social responsibility will be eliminated by our pals the government! The government is your friend!
