A woman and two men agreed to plead no contest to charges they et up two men in a sex-extortion plot, in a plea bargain to avoid state prison terms.

The trio agreed to the deal Monday in Santa Clara County Superior Court in Palo Alto relating to charges of extortion and attempted extortion, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Amy Cornell.

The three will serve a year in county jail and then be put on probation for three years instead of being sent to state prison. Sentencing will be March 5.

The woman, Saman Tahir, 20, of Fremont, and two men, Sagar Lal Sadarangani, 20, of Fremont, and Sameem Sulton, 29, of San Jose, were arrested Aug. 28 on charges they lured a married man to a Palo Alto hotel room, videotaped him having sex, and then attempted to extort him. A second married man was the victim of an attempted extortion.

The three met the married men on a social website and agreed to meet in person, Los Altos Police Sgt. John Korges said. The three were arrested in Los Altos at the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve when one of the married men met to pay them blackmail money. Palo Alto police assisted in the arrest.

  1. The Mercury-News has a lot more details on this case. Apparently, one of the johns paid the prostitute $1000 for her services. A second john paid only $50. The $50 guy is the one that called the police.

  2. So what is the lesson here for future would be prostitutes and accomplices looking to extort money from Johns?

Could it be that one should only try the extortion racket on Johns willing to pay $1,000 vs. one paying $50?

Could this be because the John is more worried the wife will get mad over the price paid as opposed to the unfaithful act itself? “You paid how much?!!!! That is more than a new sofa!”.

Or could it be the ratio of initial payment to extortion amount? For instance if the John paying $1,000 was attempted to be extorted at $10,000 and so also the $50 John the same extortion amount….might not the John paying $50 have been amenable to paying 10X over— $500 and not gone to the police.?

Any Economic Professors willing to take this one on?
