At around 7 PM, a white 90s GMC Suburban and a blue 2000 Corolla were parked right here on the other side of Mackay Drive. Some passersby noticed it too (I think they're my neighbors), and apparently called the cops, who arrived ten minutes later. A flatbed tow truck came on the scene not long after, and it was byebye Suburban. As the cop was leaving I asked what the problem was, and he said "expired registration" (by six months). Wow.
Fast forwarding to 8 PM, two 30-ish guys showed up -- one black guy and one redneck-looking guy (though it's hard to see at night) distressed about WTF happened to his Suburban. They ran into me when I stepped out to fetch some food, so I told them about the towing, which instantly got them uber-pissed off and got the black guy to start going "bull****... this is racial profiling... that ain't right" (he also claimed to live around here, which I don't believe). The owner seemed to have a good suspicion of who squealed on him, since he asked me if I'd "seen an old man." I hope he doesn't go looking for revenge.
When I got back ten minutes later, they were still there, now cussing at the top of their lungs while inserting comments about "seeing two black guys in a white neighborhood". Eventually, SIX police cars showed up to straighten things out. Never seen that many on a Palo Alto street before.
No drama to report since then, but it still leaves me with two questions:
1. What happened to those guys?
2. Why is the Corolla still here?
