I made some suggestion of using bamboo to my landscaper for a project since I had seen some advertising which appealled to me. His response straight away was don't unless you want to fall out with your neighbors.
We had some problem, but it was not a huge issue. We managed to eradicate it on our side of the fence by a continuous year-long effort to break it off while still small/young. My understanding is that this wears out the nutrients, etc., and they stop growing in your direction. I was dubious, since the stand on the neighbor's side is still there, but we have been bamboo free for a year now.
Bamboo invasiveness is a well-known problem - if you research it, you will find articles galore on the subject, I even recall one or two that are humorous. Though in your case, it is invading your property from outside, you may still get some ideas of barriers? pesticides etc. from such articles.
I have some bamboo in my yard. When it was planted, the gardener did his best to encase it in an underground barrier, but it got out anyway and is in my neighbor's yard. I go over there every month or so and yank out the stuff that is growing there. There's less and less as time goes on, but it takes constant vigilance.
I really thought that a plastic barrier that was 5 feet deep would keep it from spreading. The roots travel over the top of the ground too, and those are the ones that are getting through the fence and into my neighbor's yard.
There are many types of bamboo. Do some web research, and you many find a type your neighborhood can plant that is less invasive - or maybe not.
