Time to register for AYSO Soccer

Original post made by Publicity Director, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Apr 18, 2008

AYSO Soccer Registration has started. Every year parents wait until the last minute to register only to find out that they are too late as the division that their child is in has filled up. Don’t let this happen to your child.

Registration is now available by going to Web Link and clicking on the registration link. This year, in order to guarantee a spot for your child, you must complete the registration process prior to June 15th. Team formation will start on August 1st.

While you are registering, please consider volunteering. As you know, AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. While we cannot require anyone to volunteer, the success of this organization is dependent on getting as many volunteers as possible. This year, our goal is to have at least 80% of the families volunteering. Please help us reach that goal.

If you have never coached or refereed a soccer game, you can still be a coach or a referee. This is especially true in the younger divisions U7, U8 and U9. AYSO provided training as well as mentoring programs. Ideally, each team needs two coaches and two referees. So, if you can help out, please consider doing so.

For many of us, thinking about fall sports in April is hard and for the kids even harder. They only want to do what their friends are doing and something else may come along that sounds better. My advice, is to register now and if necessary, drop out before the season starts. It is much easier to do that than it is to register late and find no room, or have to travel across town for practices, or even wait until a couple of weeks into the season to get a space.
