20 Percent of Scientists Admit Using Brain-Enhancing Drugs -- Do You?

Original post made by julie, Midtown, on Apr 10, 2008

Nature released the results of an online survey in which 20 percent of respondents, largely drawn from the scientific community, admitted to using brain-enhancing drugs like Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Provigil (modafinil).

Sixty-two percent of the scientists who had taken drugs used Ritalin while 44 percent reported using Provigil and only 14 percent had tried beta blockers like propranolol.

The 1,427-person survey was launched after a duo of articles this winter touched off a storm of questions about widespread neuroenhancer use by the scientific community.

Crick and Watson in their biographies and accounts of their discovering the structure of DNA report how they used small doses of LSD and how this was a very common practice within the scientific community in the 1950s and early 60s.

JFK was not a scientist, but

Dr Feelgood was specially flown to Vienna, injected Kennedy with intravenous amphetamine just before he met Khrushchev.

Then later in the year Dr Hans Kraus took control of Kennedy's medication.

He demanded total control and began using massage rather than injections to treat the President. He also got rid of Jacobson, telling Kennedy:

If I ever heard he took another shot, I'd make sure it was known. No President with his finger on the red button has any business taking stuff like that.

By the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy was back on an even keel.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
