Foothills Park Entry for Non-Resident Business Owners

Original post made by Herb Borock, Professorville, on Dec 9, 2007

Retiring Council Members Cordell, Kleinberg, and Mossar have placed a request on the City Council agenda for Monday, December 10, 2007, to refer to the Policy and Services Committee the question of whether or not to lift the entry restriction at Foothills Park for non-resident Palo Alto business owners.

Their request appears as item number 19 on the Council's agenda.

The preceding agenda item, number 18, is a proposal to adopt a resolution about Iran.

Here is what Walter E. Wallis, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, said in another context about the Iran agenda item:

"The technical term for this behavior is smoke screen. It is unethical to use any city property for other then its intended purpose, and the rationalizations sound just like those for having firemen sandbag houses or police running errands. Councilfolk, get your paws out of petty cash and fix those problems that lie entirely within the scope of city government."

Cordell and Kleinberg are sponsors of both the Iran resolution and the proposed change to Foothills Park entrance requirements.

I believe the rationalization for changing the Foothills Park entrance requirement is a smoke screen, and I believe placing the proposed Iran resolution on the same agenda as the proposed change to the Foothills Park entrance requirements is also a smoke screen.

Which business owners? H-P? Stanford Shopping Center? Stanford Medical Center?
Roche? McDonald's? Apple? and the list is long. At the end of the year, some council members are throwing poliltical curve balls, generating headlines, and in general just creating more civic uproar. Fortunately some are leaving offfice. Oh, that we could get rid of some of the rest.

This is an issue which should be decided by the new City Council not all the lame ducks we have on Council right now.

The residents have made it clear that Foothill Park should remain for the residents of PA only according to the agreements made when Foothill Park was Deeded to PA.
