Mr. Placone took the time to articulate his recent experience. Thank you. His unfortunate encounter is representative of my level of utility service in the last decade. (i.e. the runaround when calling for help, the accountability (or lack thereof) when being transferred from person to person, each employee discounting the previous colleague etc)
When I learn about scandalous misuse of utlity vehicles and equipment, paid utility workers conducting non-City business during paid hours, intimidating treatment of utility leaders to subordinates, Mr. Placone's experience, frankly doesn't surprise me. It's the trickle down effect.
We had a city crew out for a blockage in our sewer lateral (sewer line between the house and the mainline in the street) and they were very nice and helpful even though it was late at night.
One trick the crew recommended was to keep the cap on the cleanout loose. That way, if the sewer backs up or there is pressure on the line, it will first get dumped outside instead of inside your house.
I thought our toilet had exploded too, but it turned out to be the new city website.
