California Avenue Farmer's Market Opens on Sunday, June 3rd, 9am-5pm

Original post made by Sanford Forte, Evergreen Park, on May 29, 2007

Come one! Come all!

Please mark your calendars for the Grand Opening of the California Avenue Farmer's Market, Sunday, June 3rd from 9:00AM-1:00PM, brought to you by the California Avenue Area Development Association.

The market will take place on California Avenue, between El Camino and Ash St. This event will give residents an opportunity to gather and promenade on California Avenue (the market venue will be closed to traffic), while they shop for local produce, crafts, and food.

Many California Avenue merchants, as well as other nearby Palo Alto merchants, will be involved in the market.

A good time will be had, by all!

I LOVE the idea of a California Avenue farmer's market! But I wonder about the wisdom of having it at the same time as the highly successful Mountain View year-round market.

The other local markets, Palo Alto, MV, and Los Altos, are on at different days of the week and times. I see a lot of the same people at all of them. They have different kinds of vendors and Los Altos is an evening market so it's a whole different event. If I could have picked a day and time for this market, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday, 4-8. It wouldn't compete with other local markets (doesn't MP happen at the same time, too?) and it would bring evening restaurant business, too. Plus it would be kind of staggered with the other markets day-wise, and might draw the farmers' market junkies that frequent the other local markets.

But, I know Calif. Avenue has a great business association, I'm sure they chose the time very carefully. I'm just personally disappointed because I know a lot of Palo Altans have favorite vendors in MV, and it may mean less business on CA Ave. than otherwise. We'll see.

It's a perfect place for a market, though!

Don't fret over overlapping markets of produce a.j.
I think you will find that there are plenty of people like myself who live
near cal. ave that do not go to these other markets and are poised to attend
this one, and yes, mental park does have a market at the same time/day.
Just wait and see: cal. ave, located in the heart of palo alto, will become
a very cool place to be on sunday morn. It's much more user freindly, and easy
to get too, unlike menlo and mt. view, and downtown pa, who goes there anymore
anyway? I only go downtown to occasionally pay a bill or go to the bank, and quite
honestly, it's got no appeal that I can see, and i've been here since inception.

I would love to be able to go to a Farmers Market, but unfortunately they are always Sunday mornings when I am very involved in Church activities. A different day/time would be a great idea as I am sure that I am not the only one who can't make Sunday ams.

you go to church for four hours? seriously, we can't adjust the schedule for everybody. Get real. I'm sure god would understand if you need to eat...

I've been counting down the days until the California Ave Farmers Market opens since, oh, early April when I first heard of it.

I love the idea of going to a Farmers Market, but it defeats the purpose if I have to get in my gas-powered vehicle to attend. They chose "not Saturday" since that conflicts with the other Palo Alto Farmers Market. That's good enough for me - there was no need to worry about conflicts in other cities when deciding the date. It's a local thing, after all.

p.s. Resident, you CAN go to a Saturday Farmers Market: it's held downtown.
