Even more disturbing is the activities of a recently established group, Christians United for Israel (CUFI). CUFI supports Israel’s aggressive land theft polices as "a biblical imperative.” The group has lobbied the Bush administration to adopt a more confrontational policy towards Iran, withhold aid from the Palestinians and give Israel a free hand to attack Lebanon. As recent events have shown, this group has been remarkably successful in influencing U.S. policy makers.
The vast majority of America's 60 million evangelicals are premillenial dispensationalists who make up the Republican base. But this radical messianic group can hardly be regarded as ‘a friend of Israel’. They regard the Israelis as dispensable fodder who will hasten Armageddon and eventual paradise for the followers of CUFI. It is extremely disturbing that many of lawmakers and members of the Bush administration embrace the extreme ideologies of CUFI.
It is encouraging that the, Anti-Defamation League President Abe Foxman, the president of the largest American Jewish organization exposed the hollowness of CUFI’s hidden agenda by delivering a scathing indictment of the Christian right as the greatest threat to American Jewish interests, and to the constitutional rights of American Jews.
