Stanford Shopping Center

Original post made by chris, University South, on Aug 15, 2006

The current issue of San Jose Business Journal has a front page article on the shopping center, which says the city of Palo Alto is encouraging the center to expand by 20% and add a hotel.
This is in response to the city's weak retail/sales tax situation and increasing competition, primarily from Valley Fair and Santana Row.
There were very few specifics about the proposed development; the article was primarily on the competitive situation, supplemented by interviews with 2 councilmembers and a Stanford Management official. The article implies that this is an initiative of the city staff.
I don't recall any recent stories on expanding the shopping center in the local media. Can we expect some additional reporting on this topic by Palo Alto Weekly and Palo Alto Daily News.
