The Palo Alto boys' soccer team held on to second place in the SCVAL De Anza Division race with a big 4-2 win over visiting Milpitas on Wednesday. The teams had been in a three-way tie for second entering the match. Paly (4-2-1, 9-2-5) took a 1-0 lead at the 10:22 mark when Kevin Ashworth scored off a corner kick from Adam Zernik. Paly made it 2-0 when Ashworth shworth scored off a through pass by Zernik. Milpitas scored seven minutes later as Paly took a 2-1 lead into halftime. It was Zernik's turn to score with 26:00 gone in the second half, taking a flip throw in from Elliot Sanborn and heading it in for a 3-1 lead. It was a 3-2 game five minutes later, but Paly wasn't done. Scott Ostrau wrapped up the scoring six minutes later when he drilled a 20-yard shot into the upper left corner. Milpitas fell to 3-3-1 with the loss. Paly visits Los Altos on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
