The Menlo School girls' soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Mountain View in the third round of the Palo Alto Winter Classic on Thursday. The Knights (0-1-3) took a 1-0 lead on a 25-yard direct free kick by Kelly Cavan 15 minutes into the game. Menlo's sophomore goalkeeper Julia Dressel had nine first-half saves to lead the Menlo defensive effort alongside strong play from Menlo defenders Frannie McCarthy, Sophia King, Elyse Adler, and Dana Gornick.
Mountain View scored three minutes into the second half and added the winning goals in the final 20 minutes. Emily Andrew scored all three goals for Mountain View while Dressel finished with 17 saves for Menlo.
