Menlo School and host Menlo-Atherton battled to a 2-2 deadlock to open their respective girls' soccer seasons on Tuesday. Menlo struck first just six minutes into the match when freshman Amanda McFarland scored from close range off a shot by freshman Jaye Boissiere that hit the post. The Bears got the equalizer at 30 minutes on a 25-yard free kick by Nicola White. Menlo regained the lead when Boissiere's 20-yard shot connected at the 65-minute mark but the Bears countered when Gillian Collom scored at 73:00. Defenders Shannon Lacy and Frannie McCarthy stood out for Menlo.
