Castilleja started its 2010-2011 soccer season with three goals in the first 10 minutes in an impressive 6-0 nonleague victory over Cupertino on Monday at the Mayfield Soccer Complex. The first goal came 2 1/2 minutes into the game off junior Caitlin Colvin's perfect corner service to her classmate, Emily Mosbacher, who headed into the upper corner. Two minutes later, senior Grace Chen passed to Colvin, whose shot went low, right out of the keeper's reach. Two minutes later, freshman Gabby Kaplan dribbled through the Cupertino defense with a solo goal and the Gators took a 3-0 lead into the half.
Just 5 1/2 minutes into the second half, Mosbacher took a ball from midfield and passed down line to Kaplan, who served Colvin for a 4-0 lead. Castilleja's senior rookie keeper Ginna Freehling made three saves in the second half as Cupertino kept the Gators from scoring for 20 minutes. But 27 minutes into the half, sophomore rookie Kaley Nelson scored on a loose ball in the box and five minutes later Kaplan took advantage of an untended goal to score from the top of the box to wrap up the victory.
