Varsity Boys Football
Palo Alto 13, Mitty 10
Date of competition: Friday, November 19, 2010
Quarterback Christoph Bono threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with 35 seconds left in the game to lift the Palo Alto football team to a thrilling 13-10 victory over No. 8 seed Mitty (6-4-1) in a Central Coast Section Open Division opener on Friday night on the Vikings' field. Top-seeded Paly (11-0) trailed 10-6 after Mitty kicked a field goal with 8:46 left in the game. Bono then threw an interception with 8:32 remaining to play and the Vikings' hope of an unbeaten season seemed doomed. Paly regained possession, leading to the winning drive. Bono also scored on a 45-yard run with 46 seconds left in the first half, but missed the PAT. Paly trailed by 7-6 entering the fourth quarter.
Palo Alto now advances to the semifinals next week at San Jose City College against No. 5 Bellarmine (9-2), which upended No. 4 Oak Grove on Friday night. The Bells beat Paly in the opening round last season, 34-6.
This was Palo Alto's second victory over Mitty this season, the first a 20-7 triumph in September. The Vikings are now off to the best start in program history with their 11-game winning streak.
