The Menlo School girls' tennis team saw its fine season end in a 5-2 loss to Monta Vista in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Team Tournament on Monday at Courtside Tennis Club in Los Gatos. The third-seeded Knights finished 19-6 while the No. 2-seeded Matadors (20-4) moved on to the CCS finals on Wednesday against top seed Saratoga, a 5-2 winner over Mitty.

"They fought hard, and got so much better as the year went on," Menlo coach Bill Shine said. "I’m real proud of them for that. The seniors played their last match, and played really well."

Against the Matadors, the Knights got a pair of doubles victories. The No. 1 team of senior Eliza Adams and sophomore Saga Shermis beat Ruri Kobayakawa and Kelsey Chong, 7-5, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, senior Stephanie Carlisle and freshman Jackie Fancher took a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Claire Chin and Sabrina Mui.
