Lauren Brown and Nicole Fasola scored first-half goals and Liz Daly came up with some big second-half saves in goal as the Menlo girls' soccer team held off host Menlo-Atherton, 2-0, in PAL Bay Division action on a damp, overcast Thursday afternoon. "We're still in the hunt," said Menlo coach Donoson FitzGerald, whose team improved to 4-2-2 in league (14 points) and 7-4-2 overall. The Knights will visit fellow playoff contender Aragon on Saturday in a makeup match. While Menlo dominated the first half with Brown, Fasola, Ginny Miller and Madi Shove leading the way, Menlo-Atherton (1-6-2, 4-8-3) came out fired up in the second and kept the Knights on their heels throughout. Mariana Jacuinde, Katie Flanagan, Gillian Collom, Stephanie Lee and Maddie Wheeler kept pushing on offense until the final whistle. Wheeler suffered a leg injury late in the match and had to leave the field.
