In a tune-up tournament hosted by Gunn High School, the Menlo-Atherton boys’ water polo team played one of their best games of the season with a 16-6 beat-down of Tokay from Lodi on a rainy Friday night. The Bears came out firing with a pinpoint goal from senior Evan Navarro on the first possession and quickly opened up a 5-0 first quarter lead. Graham McClelland opened the 2nd period with a long range shot and 3 more Bears found the net before the Tigers could get on the board. M-A’s constantly changing drop back defense forced Tokay to take outside shots which goalie Alex Gow repeatedly denied. Gow had 13 blocked shots before giving way to freshman Hans Brouwer in the final stanza. Sophomore Zach Deal led M-A with 3 goals. McClelland, his younger brother Evan, Nick Henze, and Harrison Holland-McCowan each added 2 as 10 Bears figured in the scoring. Danny Kemether led Tokay with 3 scores.

M-A resumes play at Gunn at 10:20 AM on Saturday when they take on St Ignatius. At 1:50 PM they will wrap up the tourney against Monte Vista from Danville.
