The game was tied at half, 1-1 Mountain View scored in the first few minutes of the game with a goal by McColl Matthews (assisted by Victoria Hayward). Paly's first-half goal was executed by two sophomores – Kelly Jenks scored after receiving a pass from Erika Hoglund. For the 2nd half, Mountain View took the lead with three goals – Matthews (Whitney Woods), Kirsten Belinsky (Jenna Bernstein), Martina De Geus (LIzzie Browne). Score is now 4-1. With a little more than five minutes left in the game. Paly turned up the heat and scored three goals of its own. At the 76th minute, Teresa Noyola scored on a direct kick. At the 77th minute, Sammi Bengston fed the ball to Maeve Stewart's feet for the next goal. At the 80th minute, Noyola scored unassisted. Right before the whistle, Paly had an opportunity for the game-winning goal when Noyola crossed the ball to Stewart, who was a few yards out from the MV net. She took a shot which unluckily went over the crossbar as the frenzied Paly fans roared, amazed at the "heart" the Paly players put into the game right to the very end. Stewart was back on the field for the first time today after a foot injury sidelined her during the Palo Alto Winter Classic tournament last November. Alex Kershner played in the goal the first half of the game and did not start the second half because she was feeling ill. Caroline McDonnell played in goal the second half for Paly, which took over sole possession of first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division with its 2-1-1 record (10-1-1 overall).
