The 13th-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team served notice that last year's 3-25 overall record is nothing more than y a distant memory bdefeating defending national champion UC Irvine, 30-21, 30-28, 28-30, 28-30, 15-10, on Friday night to advance to the championship game of the UCSB/Elephant Bar Tournament. Senior Matt Ceran had 19 kills for the second straight match while sophomore Evan Romero added 16 kills and freshman Spencer McLachlin had 10. Stanford (2-0) meets the University of Alberta in Saturday's championship match. The Bears (22-3) have been playing since September and beaten USC, Pepperdine, and UC Irvine among others. One of their three losses came to Stanford in October during the exhibition Dino Cup in Calgary.
