The Menlo-Atherton boys’ water polo team began PAL League play with a sound thrashing of Burlingame at M-A’s Spieker Pool on Wednesday. Coach Marco Palazzo was concerned that his team would come out sluggish playing right after school, but he didn’t have to worry for long as the Bears jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead on the way to a 16-1 rout. On the way nine different players scored led by junior Roger Upton’s and senior Graham McClelland’s 3 tallies each. Goalie Alex Gow kept the Panthers at bay with 8 blocked shots. Gow also added 3 assists on long passes to match Max Wilder in that category. After the game Coach Palazzo said he was happy to be able to give everyone lots of playing time and that the Bears teamwork was improving with each game. In the JV contest M-A was just as dominant as freshman Jake Bassin led the way with 3 goals in an 11-2 victory
